Chinese fashion designer Guo Pei, renowned for her canary-yellow feathered outfit worn by American pop-star Rihanna during last year's Met Gala, will be one of the headliners at this year's Singapore Fashion Week.
The five-day festival, which will take place at the National Gallery of Singapore from 26 to 30 October, will also have New York-based designer Naeem Khan and London-based designer Han Chong headlining its international segment.
Khan's elaborate and richly embroidered gowns have been worn by American singers Beyonce and Jennifer Lopez, as well as US First Lady Michelle Obama. Han Chong's feminine lace dresses from his label Self-Portrait, on the other hand, have been worn by supermodels Gigi Hadid and Miranda Kerr.
These big names, who will be showcasing their designs on the main stage at the Supreme Court Terrace, will be joined by local brands including womenswear label Ong Shunmugam by Priscilla Shunmugam and exhibit by Yoyo Cao. Arissa X, Singaporean socialite Arissa Cheo's ready-to-wear fashion and accessories label, will also make its debut.
The Harper's BAZAAR Asia New Gen Fashion Award 2016, which will also be staged during the festival, will have eight regional designers vying for the top spot in the annual competition.
The festival's second stage, Singapore Fashion Week Access (SGFWA), will be held in the gallery's Auditorium Foyer.
New to the scene, this platform gives emerging designers the chance to introduce their brand to a wider audience.
Gracing this stage will be local womenswear brands such as Max.Tan by Max Tan, Aijek by Danelle Woo, and Stolen by Elyn Wong.
Other brands also showing at SGFWA include Chi Chi Von Tang by Lisa Crosswhite, Nude Femme by Adelyn Putri, Nida Shay by Singapore-based designer Nida Tahir Shaheryar, and leather shoe label Mashizan by Mashizan Masjum.
Says Masjum, 43, whose shoes have been seen on La Toya Jackson and Solange Knowles: "I feel absolutely honoured and thrilled... it is an opportunity to reach out to new audiences."
The annual Singapore Fashion Week, which started in 2006, is organised by marketing and communications agency Mercury M&C.
While past shows have been restricted to ticket-holders, the public now has access as well: The shows will be streamed live on the festival's website at singaporefashionweek
This year, those interested to get their hands on a design they fancy can do so as selected runway items will be sold at venues including Tang Plaza at Orchard Road.
