At the end of every year, we're always innundated with "The Year in Review" pieces. Look Lady has decided to add her voice to the chorus. After all, fashion, with its whims, fancies, graces, blunders, silliness and disgraces, practically begs for an annual review. So here are my best and worst fashion trends of 2016.

The No. 1 worst fashion trend of 2016 was the naked dress. That nude, see-through clothing with appliques supposedly covering the private parts was more than a little over the top for me. I really don't want to be in on the secrets of a random person's body, no matter how exquisite the surrounding fabric might be. That gratutitous peek-a-boo is distracting, at the very least.

Another 2016 trend that should go away is the so-called "practical" tops and dresses with extra-long sleeves. Sleeves hanging down over the fingers? Why? This trend needs to go bye bye. Honestly, how can such sleeves not get dragged through the spaghetti sauce or dunked in your coffee cup?

Then there are those off shoulder dresses that are so tight, you can't move your arms. Erin Andrews wore one while hosting "Dancing With The Stars" one night, and she literally couldn't raise her arms. She laughed at herself the whole show.

But enough of the bad. The best of 2016 is so much better. And not only were those trends great in 2016, they'll stay with us to brighten 2017.

Top of the list is the poncho, a classic piece that you could wear all year long. Perfect for all ages and sizes. And versatile: Throw one on with jeans or with a pencil skirt for work or a great pair of slim pants for evening.

Jumpers were, and will continue to be classic too. Short or long, casual or dressy, this trend is so easy to wear. You can change it's look with a blouse or sweater, over or under the top. And just like a dress, you put a jumper on and go. It's stress-free!

Velvet, a timeless fabric and on trend for 2016, will be in style next year, too, and more power to it. If you don't want full-on velvet, look for a piece with velvet detailing or a velvet accessory, like shoes. I love the idea of velvet shoes. That rich shimmer at your feet makes any outfit something special..

Speaking of shoes, the best trend in 2016 was the lace up flat. You know they are so much more comfortable than heels. The lace up ties give flats the distinctive look you're after. Pair them with a pleated full skirt or cropped jeans. You'll be seeing these again in 2017.

Last but not least, denim with flair. Not your regular jeans. 2016 brought us jeans with detailed bottoms: unhemmed, fringed, and studded — anything to make those jeans stand out. Yes, 2017 style is in the details.
